6th Joint Call: Telemedicine
Background
COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly, with severe risks for vulnerable groups such as people with chronic conditions and pregnant women. Telemedicine offers a way to minimize exposure by allowing remote care for mildly ill patients while supporting preventive strategies.
The project also addresses secondary challenges of the pandemic, such as the safe management of medical waste from households and self-quarantine patients. By incorporating smart dropbox locations and community education, it seeks to mitigate contamination risks.
The project
Telemedicine pursues the following objectives:
- Develop a health integration system for pandemic detection and monitoring.
- Incorporate 3D smart city models using GNSS and LIDAR for tracing and spatial analysis.
- Integrate smartphone-based telemedicine tools linked with GNSS positioning and health databases.
- Assess environmental conditions to study links between air quality, weather, and COVID-19 risk.
- Address pandemic-related waste management through smart collection and education systems.
The science
The project integrates geospatial technologies, environmental monitoring, and digital health:
- 3D city modeling using GNSS/LIDAR integration.
- Smartphone-enabled telemedicine applications for patient monitoring and data collection.
- Environmental data analysis on air pollution and weather impacts on disease risk.
- Smart waste management systems to reduce contamination from medical waste.
