The SEA-Europe Joint Funding Scheme for Research and Innovation (JFS) is a network of funders from Southeast Asia and Europe which launches Joint Calls for Proposals on an annual basis.

Currently, the 5th Joint S&T Call for Proposals in the thematic area of Infectious Diseases and Nanotechnologies, the 6th Joint Innovation Call for Proposals in the thematic area of Digital Health and Bioeconomy are open for submission. The submission of proposals will be closed on 15th December 2020 17:00 Jakarta time (5th Call) and 15th January 2020 18:00 Jakarta time (6th Call).

As a Call Secretariat, the Indonesian Science Fund (DIPI) supports the set-up of strong consortia for the submission of the project proposals with high quality, selected Southeast Asian and European researchers. In that context, the Call secretariat held an online Q&A session, online on the 7th of December 2020. 

The Southeast Asia-Europe Joint Funding Scheme held the 4th Virtual JFS Matchmaking Event on Bioeconomy topics on November 23, 2020. 

The 4th Virtual JFS Matchmaking Event took place in the spirit of the Global Bioeconomy Summit 2020. 

The event provided information about the Southeast Asia – Europe Joint Funding Scheme (JFS) and the related bioeconomy Innovation Joint Calls for Proposals, which are currently open for submission of research proposals. To support the set-up of powerful consortia for the submission of strong project proposals, selected Southeast Asian and European researchers seeking for complementing partner organizations will present their institution and project ideas.

Southeast Asia has doubled its share of the world's research publication output over the last decade. The number of annual international patent applications involving ASEAN-based inventors has tripled from the early 2000s to the early 2010s.

A research team of the EU-funded SEA-EU-NET project carried out a study assessing the research output in ASEAN Member States from 2000 to 2014. The lead author of the study, Alexander Degelsegger, Centre for Social Innovation, Austria will present the key findings and other scientometric indicators on Southeast Asian research and discuss what lessons lie behind
